As a registered health professional in Namibia, keeping up with your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements is essential for maintaining your registration. Here’s what you need to know about Continuing Education Units (CEUs):
Basic CEU Requirements
- Annual requirement: Accumulate 30 CEUs per 12-month period
(we offer 10 Article Package 2025 – Educational Psychology, 10 Article Package 2025 – General Psychology, and 10 Article Package 2025 – Industrial Psychology 1 that each provide the full 30 CEUs required) - Ethics requirement: At least 5 of these CEUs must be for ethics, human rights, and medical law
(our dedicated Ethics course provides sufficient CEUs to meet your annual ethics requirements)
What qualifies as ethics content? Ethics CEUs include topics related to professional boundaries, confidentiality, informed consent, cultural competence, and legal obligations in healthcare.
- Validity period: CEUs are valid for 24 months from the date of the activity
- Compliance level: You should maintain a balance of 60 CEUs at all times (with at least 10 CEUs in ethics) — this means you need to consistently earn CEUs throughout the year rather than waiting until the deadline
CEU Requirements Based on Registration Type
Council | Professional Registration | Supplementary Registration |
---|---|---|
Medical and Dental | 30 CEUs | 15 CEUs |
Nursing | 30 CEUs | 15 CEUs |
Allied Health Professions | 30 CEUs | 15 CEUs |
Pharmacy | 30 CEUs | 15 CEUs |
Social Work and Psychology | 30 CEUs | 15 CEUs |
Our psychology courses are recognized across HPCSA and HPCNA.
* Supplementary registration applies to professionals who are registered in a category that is complementary to their main registration, or for those not actively practicing but maintaining their registration.
Multiple Registrations
- If registered in two professions from different Councils: 30 CEUs per profession (or 15 for supplementary)
- If registered in multiple professions within the same Council: 30 CEUs per profession
Cross Recognition of CEUs
Good news! If a CPD activity has been accredited by the HPCNA CPD Committee for a specific Council, all healthcare professionals may attend and claim CEUs if it’s relevant to their scope of practice. No need to apply for re-accreditation by your own Council.
What this means for you: If you’re a psychologist, you can attend courses accredited for medical professionals and claim those CEUs, provided the content is applicable to psychology practice.

Record Keeping
- Keep certificates of attendance for every CPD activity for at least two years (As an Accredited Service Provider, we keep records reflecting your attendance and completion of activities for a period of three years, as required for compliance audits. If you need to retrieve your certificates at any time, simply contact us at zandi@next-agile.co.za)
- Maintain your Individual CPD Activity Record (Form CPD 1)
- If selected for a compliance check, you’ll need to submit your records within 21 working days
Why Maintaining Your CEUs Matters
Failing to meet your CEU requirements can lead to complications with your professional registration renewal. The HPCNA may require additional documentation, impose penalties, or in severe cases of non-compliance, suspend registration until requirements are met. Staying proactive with your continuing education helps avoid these issues and ensures uninterrupted practice.
Remember, CPD isn’t just about meeting requirements—it’s about maintaining and enhancing your professional knowledge and skills.
